It was a lofty goal… but when Architecture Involution LLC (Ai3) was born in 1998, four young partners who looked more like college students than business professionals believed in a single and solitary goal…The ability to change the educational environment in a way that would make a difference… a REAL difference. Almost 10 years later, having completed over 2,000,000sf of educational space, the mission has not changed and the enthusiasm has not wavered. The office is larger, the partners are older, but the same raw energy that launched Ai3 now fuels a quest to make an even greater difference.

In 2005, having been recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for their innovative educational environments and “…providing a refreshing approach to intelligent school design which revolutionizes teaching and learning in the modern school environment”, Ai3 could have relaxed and enjoyed their much deserved success in the educational market. “Not a chance” say the partners, as they took the opportunity to re-double their efforts and launch CASE 21, the quest for the perfect classroom.

“Once you dedicate 10 years of your life to believing in something… night and day… and then start to see it make a real difference…it becomes addictive. You can’t stop it…You don’t even want to stop it. CASE 21 was our means for raising the bar even higher”, says partner Scott Dunlap.

So the ten-year-old firm focusing 100% of their efforts on changing the educational environment has succeeded, by most standards; awards, recognition, research. However, according to them, they have only just begun…
